Yahoo submissions tips

Yahoo is #1 but is not a search engine, it's a web directory. Editors hand pick sites for inclusion in Yahoo and your site is listed under a catagory for search purposes. Probably the one everybody wants to be listed in, but how?

Editors are looking for sites which offer relevant content for the subject of the site, a strong design and fast loading speeds. If your site is under construction it will not be considered and if your site has little origional content you face an uphill struggle. Before submitting to Yahoo, spend lots of time studying the submission process, once entered it is very difficult to change a listing. You must get it right first time. If in doubt, wait, check the Yahoo help and think about it.

Study the catagories available, search your keywords to spot where the competition is listed and consider those catagories. You can request two seperate listings but the must be relevant and you may not get both, if any. They have high standards.

Once you have chosen your catagory, go to that page and click the Suggest a Site link which takes you to the submission form.

You will need to complete the relevant forms and it is well worthwhile going through the whole process on a dummy site to identify what information is actually required. Then go away and think about what you actually want to input into Yahoo for your real site. Once submitted it is near to impossible to get your listing changed so you must do it right the first time. I would suggest that Yahoo is left until some experience is built up on submitting to search engines to enable you use the tips learnt to get the best input into your Yahoo submissions.
