Lycos recently teamed up with the Open Directory Project. Lycos first lists sites found by Direct Hit which are ranked by the popularity of the site. ODP listings then follow, with Lycos's own results after those. A good Direct Hit position is required to gain hits from Lycos.
Uses the T-Rex spider to check web pages. Lycos likes small page sizes, with the keyword in the title tag, on the page and in a hyper link
They don't use Meta Tags and ignore Comment tags. These can't be seen on the page, but Alt Tags can and are used by Lycos to rank a page.
Pages with less than 100 words in the Title and body text are not scored and although they are indexed by T-Rex they will not appear in a search.
Image maps are not recognised by Lycos so make sure you include other links for the spider to follow.
