Excite has 50m pages indexed and it usually takes 2-4 weeks to get your site listed. However it has been some time since the last update. It's architext spider only likes one page from each site, the index.html page, but will go on to index the rest if you include links to the other pages. It uses meta description and title tags.

Using multiple title tags helps but is considered spam and will be caught. Invisible text is not considered spam by Excite but multiple use of the same word is. Because other engines treat invisible text as spam it's best avoided. Choosing a url with your keyword helps a lot and keep your pages small 1-2k.

Excite crawls through the whole site and scores pages based on the relevance of the site rather than individual pages so make the whole site relevant to your main targeted keywords.

A listing in the Excite directory adds to your score so submit your site to Looksmart which is used by Excite as a basis for it's directory. Visit Looksmart, find an appropriate category and click the submit site link to enter the submission process.

Submit to Excite at http://www.excite.com/info/add_url and your site will also be included in the Webcrawler and Magellan indexes.
